Working Locally to Stop Global Warming

Mission

To inform and mobilize about carbon pollution, greenhouse gas emissions, climate change, global warming and environmental destruction; and to propose, facilitate and advocate for solutions including reduced greenhouse gas emissions, sustainable development, renewable energy and technologies, green buildings, energy efficiency, conservation, and other related initiatives in the New York metropolitan region.

NYCR Activities:

New York Climate Rescue is involved in a wide range of activities including:

  • Speaking engagements with decision-makers and local citizen groups to educate and inform these constituencies about climate change and the urgent need for New York to start on solving the problem.

  • Lobbying on behalf of legislative/regulatory initiatives dealing with “greenhouse gas” emissions.

  • Develop and promote innovative solutions for the city which will address its specific needs, problems, and infrastructure.

  • Publicize and mobilize around existing initiatives.

  • Research and reconfigure innovative solutions developed in other municipalities for implementation in New York City.  (E.g. San Francisco’s “Vote Solar” bond initiative.)

  • Use the city’s stature to publicize successes so that other municipalities and governments can replicate solutions developed here.

  • Coordinate with other groups working on this issue to help increase the impact of individual and groups actions.
